The filmmaker and stars go deep on the making and meaning of Us as well as its unique place in horror history.

Writer-director Jordan Peele has avoided the sophomore slump with Us, the critically acclaimed horror follow-up to his Oscar-winning Get Out. According to critics, the movie is a terrifying head f–k and like no horror film we’ve seen. Ahead of the movie’s opening, Rotten Tomatoes sat down with Peele, as well as co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, to talk about why Us stands out from the horror pack, and what Peele is trying to say with his new socially-minded slasher. Plus, all three weigh in on the movie’s unique position as major mainstream horror film centered around Black characters – what that means to them as actors and filmmakers as well as to the millions of horror fans who will experience Us when it hits theaters.

Us opens in theaters on March 22
