The 5 Most Anticipated Movies of November

Four movies about families – murderous, makeshift, and otherwise – and a star-studded caper about spies and art thieves round out the top picks of the month.

Being that this is the month of Thanksgiving (here in the States, at least), it’s somewhat appropriate that four out of the five most anticipated movies of November deal in some way with family. From the murderous shenanigans of the House of Gucci to the makeshift family of Marvel’s Eternals and more, there’s a little action, a little intrigue, and even a few ghosts here and there. So if you need something to take the attention away from all the awkward dinner table conversations, here are some of the hottest films moviegoers are looking forward to seeing in November.

Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel is still playing in theaters, but if you’re looking for a piece of historical storytelling that’s a bit more contemporary — and arguable much more stylish — then Scott has you covered with House of Gucci. It stars an impressive ensemble that includes Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and Jared Leto, and it chronicles three decades of the famous Italian fashion house Gucci, culminating in the 1985 murder of its head, Murizio Gucci (Driver), by his ex-wife (Lad Gaga). This one shot to the top of our Instagram and Twitter polls and came in at number two on Facebook, so here’s hoping it does a little better at the box office than The Last Duel.

The first of two movies that tied for the second spot this month is recent Oscar winner Chloé Zhao’s entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This millennia-spanning cosmic fantasy centers on a race of immortals who have lived on Earth for thousands of years with one mission: to protect the planet from invasion by evil monsters known as Deviants. The film is rather surprisingly tracking to earn the lowest Tomatometer score of any MCU film thus far (and the first Rotten one at that), but that hasn’t dampened fan enthusiasm all that much, as it came in second in our Instagram and Twitter polls and finished fourth on Facebook.

As it happens, the other film to tie for second this month is also a grand adventure about a team of heroes battling supernatural evil. This one, however, has ties to the past, as Jason Reitman directs a direct sequel to the two Ghostbusters films his father Ivan directed back in the 1980s. This time around, the action focuses on a single mother and her two kids who move to an old farmhouse owned by her father, only to uncover the truth about his past (he’s a Ghostbuster, if that wasn’t clear) and unwittingly carry on his legacy. This one’s been a long time coming, and while it did well in our Instagram and Twitter polls, our Facebook followers in particular are all about this movie in November.

If you can’t wait for the next season of The Crown on Netflix to see more of Princess Diana’s story unfold, then perhaps Pablo Larrain’s (Jackie) latest historical biopic will tide you over. Kristen Stewart has earned heaps of praise for her portrayal of the iconic royal, who spends Christmas 1991 at Queen Elizabeth’s estate even as her private life begins to overwhelm her. Spencer is already Certified Fresh at 86% after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and our fans on Facebook and Twitter in particular have it high on their list.

In theaters on November 5 and streaming on Netflix on November 12

It’s difficult to deny the star power of Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, whose names alone might be enough to make Red Notice a must-see. But toss them together in what looks like a fun little heist caper about spies and art thieves pitted against each other, and it makes more sense why Netflix would choose to put this one in theaters a week before streaming it. This one fell quite a bit behind the other four films on the list this month, but generate enough interest to sneak into the top five.
