This week on DVD, we’ve got a would-be franchise-starter that underperformed over the summer, an acclaimed thriller, a surprise animated treat, and a bunch of great TV. Read on for the full list.


Silicon Valley: Season 4 (2017) 94%

In the fourth season of HBO’s acclaimed satire of the tech world, Richard pivots to a new venture involving a peer-to-peer internet with Dinesh and Gilfoyle’s help, while Gavin deals with career woes. The season set comes with three deleted scenes.

Veep: Season 6 (2017) 94%

Season 6 of HBO’s hit comedy finds Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer working outside Washington, writing a memoir and trying to secure her legacy, and while the rest of her former team are off pursuing new opportunities, new developments bring them all together again. The season set comes with commentary tracks for seven of its episodes.

Citizen Jane: Battle for the City (2017) 95%

This Certified Fresh documentary centers on activist Jane Jacobs and her efforts to battle to protect New York neighborhoods from developers during the 1960s. The film is only available on DVD, and no information on special features is available.

Orphan Black: Season 5 (2017) 95%

Tatiana Maslany finally won an Emmy in 2016 for her work in this sci-fi series about a woman who discovers she’s one of several clones embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy. The fifth and final season set comes with a look at the set design, a breakdown of a particularly tricky shot, an inside look at the clone-specific episodes, a look back at the series, and more.

It Comes At Night (2017) 87%

Joel Edgerton and Carmen Ejogo star in Trey Edward Shults’ minimalistic pscyhological thriller about an isolated family whose efforts to survive a mysterious apocalyptic disease are thrown into disarray when they agree to house another desperate young family. It includes a standard making-of featurette.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (Captain Underpants) (2017) 88%

Kevin Hart and Ed Helms lend their voices to this animated adaptation of the popular children’s books about a couple of young pranksters who hypnotize their principal into believing he is a superhero. Special features include deleted scenes, lyric videos, a cast Q&A, a motion comic, and more.

The Mummy (2017) 16%

Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella star in the latest iteration of Universal’s classic monster movie, in which a vengeful ancient princess awakens to wreak havoc across the world. Bonus features include deleted and extended scenes, a conversation between Cruise and director Alex Kurtzman, interviews with the cast and crew, and inside looks at different aspects of the movie.
