A Quiet Passion (2016) 92%

Cynthia Nixon stars as Emily Dickinson in Terence Davies’ biopic about the celebrated American poet’s life. Special features include a behind-the-scenes featurette, a Q&A session with Nixon and Davies, and a collector’s booklet.

The Magicians: Season 2 (2017) 91%

This SyFy fantasy series centers on two friends who take wildly divergent paths to learn magic — critics found the second season a great improvement on the first. The season 2 set comes with a gag reel and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

The Lost City of Z (2016) 86%

Charlie Hunnam and Tom Holland star in this historical adventure-drama about Percy Fawcett, the British explorer who disappeared in the Amazon during a search for a lost civilization. Bonus features include a commentary track and a trio of behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Their Finest (2016) 90%

Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy star in this dramedy about a woman pressed into service writing propaganda films for Britain during World War II. Extras include a making-of featurette and a commentary track with director Lone Scherfig.

The Fate of the Furious (2017) 67%

Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the gang are back for another adventure, this time to face off against a hacker (Charlize Theron) who turns Dom Toretto against his crew. Available in 4K and an extended director’s cut, the Blu-ray comes with a look at the film’s location shoot in Cuba, a profile of the vehicles used in the film, extended fight scenes, and more.

Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) 40%

Demi Lovato, Mandy Patinkin, and Rain Wilson lend their voices to the third Smurfs film — the first to be completely animated — which follows the  little blue hobgoblins as they search for a secret village in the Forbidden Forest. It comes with deleted scenes, a commentary track, tutorials on how to draw the Smurfs and “Smurfify” your nails, and a ton of other featurettes.

  • Criterion has a couple of new choices, beginning with a new release of Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy, which includes Rome: Open CityPaisan, and Germany Year Zero, all made during and after World War II with largely nonprofessional actors.
  • Criterion’s second offering this week is Robert Bresson’s L’argent — his final film — which follows a counterfeit bill as it passes hands between various Parisians and ultimately lands a truck driver in deep trouble. It comes with a new video essay, a press conference from the 1983 Cannes Film Festival, and more.
